From The Independent, Thursday 22 August 1996, by James Kirkup: "Tsutakiyokomatsu Asaji was one of the rare last representatives of a bygone glory, and a centenarian witness to a lost paradise. Yanagibashi Asaji as she was known to her clients - a name derived from the "willow bridge" district of geisha houses in downtown Tokyo - was a true Edokko geisha (that is, born and bred in Edo, the former name of Tokyo), and the last of her line."
